• What- Islamic religion is the belief in one all
powerful, and compassionate God.

• Where- Mecca, Arabia
• Why- The angel of Gabriel came to
Muhammad in a vision while he was praying
and told him to proclaim the name of God.
Holy Books
• The Quran is the Holy Book of the Islamic
religion. It doesn’t teach about God but it’s
a guide through life.
• The Quran emphasizes honesty,
generosity, and social justice as well as
set harsh penalties for crimes.

• Caliph: successor of Muhammad
• Mullah: a Muslim man educated in Islamic
theology and sacred law.
• Ayatollah: a high-ranking Shiite worthy of
imitation in religious law and interpretation
• Imam: a caliph that is the lawful temporal
leader of the community
