channel and to whom to channel it.
– Assaults, including sexual assault
– Fights, especially among groups
– Vandalism
– Graffiti
– Bullying, threats, harassment, intimidation,
extortion
– Increased defiance

• Look for Graffiti
– Walls, halls, restrooms

Check school yearbooks
Look at student clothing and accessories
Has there been an increase in weapon
violation or assaults
• Has there been an increase in drug activity

• Examine Policies
– Revise old policies
– Add new policies (gang, metal detectors, searches,
etc.)
• Train staff on awareness issues
• Conduct a gang assessment
– Visual Inspection
• Document findings (graffiti, notebooks, colors,
etc.)
• Construct an anonymous reporting system for
students
Now what do we do?
• Develop a Police liaison
– Place, parking sign
– Establish a police workstation inside school
• Assess the need for physical security
needs
– Cameras, signs, etc.
• Measure success
