THE FORCES OF NATURE
BY
H. B. G.
Newton’s first Law of Motion

An object that is not
being pushed or
pulled by a force
either stays still or
keeps moving at a
constant speed.
Friction
What is Friction ?
Friction occurs when a moving object
rubs against a surface . It is the force
that is causing objects to slow down
and come to a stop . When you roll a
ball on a textured surface it will roll
slower than on a smooth surface .
Gravity
What is Gravity ?
Gravity is the force that pulls
us down to the earth.
Gravity is one of the
fundamental forces because
it affects every single mass
of the universe from atoms
to galaxies.
Projectile
• What is a
projectile ?
A projectile is
an object that is
pushed by a
force through
the air, and it
flies in a curved
path.
Newton’s Second Law of
Motion
• Forces make
things
accelerate. The
bigger the force
and the lighter
the object, the
greater
acceleration.
Push and Pull
• Push and pull creates
a force. A force can
change the direction,
the motion, the size
or shape of a body.
Newton’s Third Law of
Motion
• Every action has
an equal and
opposite
reaction.
Bounce
An object like a ball holds potential
energy. It is
Called potential energy because it has the
Potential to drop. If let go it will bounce
and the
Potential energy will turn into kinetic
energy.
Kinetic energy is the energy of a moving
object.
The faster something is moving, the more
Kinetic energy it has.
Rockets
A rocket engine uses high
Pressure to force a fluid
Or gas through a restricted
Opening at a high velocity
And this creates a force that
Propels the launch vehicle in
The opposite direction from
The exhausting fluid.
There are lots of air molecules
In the air, and they move around
That is what creates air pressure
All around us.
Forces changing the landscape
• A volcano is a force that can change the
landscape.
• Earthquakes are forces that can change
our environment.
• Glaciers, the force of frozen water, can
change our landscape.
