Forces
What is Force?
-a force is any influence that causes an object to
undergo a change in speed, a change in direction, or a
change in shape.
-Force can also be described by intuitive concepts
such as a push or pull.
-Force is the capacity to do work or cause
physical change.
Force= Mass multiplied to acceleration
(F = ma)
CONTACT FORCE
-is
a force that acts at the point
of contact between two objects, in
contrast to body forces.
Frictional Force
-It refers to the result of the surface of one object
coming into contact with the surface of another
object.
Tension force
-is
the force which is transmitted through a string,
rope, cable or wire when it is pulled tight by forces acting
from opposite ends. The tension force is directed along
the length of the wire and pulls equally on the objects on
the opposite ends of the wire.
Normal force
is the force of a surface acting on an
object( the normal force is
perpendicular to the plane of contact).
This force is directly related to the
force of gravity, as the third law of
newton state that when a force is
applied to an object it will react with an
equal force in the opposite direction
Air Resistance
In fluid dynamics, drag (sometimes called
air resistance or fluid resistance) refers to
forces which act in a solid object in the
direction of the relative fluid flow velocity.
Applied Force
-an applied force is a force which is applied to
an object by a person or another object.
If a person is pushing a desk across the room,
then there is an applied force acting upon the
object.
The applied force is the force exerted on the
desk by the person.
Spring Force
The spring force is the force exerted by a
compressed or stretched spring upon any
object which is attached to it.
An object which compresses or stretches a
spring is always acted upon by a force which
restores the object to its rest or
equilibrium position.
For most springs, the magnitude of the
force is directly proportional to the amount
of stretch or compression of the spring.
Action-at-a-distance Force
In physics, action at a distance
is the interaction of two
objects which are separated in
space with no known mediator of
the interaction.
Gravitational Force
-the amount of pull on anything that keeps that
object on the earth
-the amount of gravity on the object that keeps it
moving
-Newton's law of universal gravitation states that
every point mass in the universe attracts every
other point mass with a force that is directly
proportional to the product of their masses and
inversely proportional to the square of the distance
between them.
Magnetic force
-attraction or repulsion that arises between
electrically charged particles because of their
motion; the basic force responsible for the
action of electric motors and the attraction of
magnets for iron.
Electric forces exist among stationary electric
charges; both electric and magnetic forces exist
among moving electric charges. The magnetic
force between two moving charges may be
described as the effect exerted upon either
charge by a magnetic field created by the other.
Electrical Force
-It is the force that pulls the tiny
electrons of an atom into their orbits,
and thus prevents atoms from blowing up
as the electrons remain in their orbits
due to the help of electrical force which
comes from the center of the orbit
-Attractive or Repulsive interaction
between two charged objects
- the electric force is like an
invisible spring, but as the charges
move farther apart, a weaker
spring pulls them together.
