Learning Activity Template 3:
Customization of Content
The following are our group’s three examples
of learning activity frameworks adapted
using new content.
Content Area 2: Parts of Speech
Learning Activity Template 1: Roleplay/sim
- Original idea: role play (pick a part of speech from a box, arrange a
sentence, and explain your role). Wear a card, be the part of speech (on
back on card, safe prepared responses)
- Concern: may not work with target audience.
- Different variations of activities – different level of complexity
- Resource (def’n of parts of speech) handed out
- Target audience is ESL – could be a great deal of anxiety
- Game format, element of nonsense (important for audience to feel
safe)
Content Area 2:
Learning Activity Template 2: Inquiry
Problem: ???
- Give each part of speech a value (i.e. verbs = $5, nouns =
$1)
- Activity can involve a budget (i.e. advertising manager has
a word budget of $200 to sell Nike shoes, create the most
effective advertising slogan/paragraph.)
- Objective: Student must tally up the total cost of their
paragraph.
- Resource is given so they can identify the parts and values
of the words they have used.
