Host new Regional competitions aimed at
participation
• Other formats will be developed in conjunction
with clubs and regions to increase the
accessibility to local competitions.
University Pentathlon Programmes
• 18-25 year olds
• New participants – previous experience in one
of the sports
• New participants looking for a challenge
experience
• Lapsed participants
• Current participants transitioning to University
and at risk of leaving the sport
• Via the new BUCS Sports Advisory Group a strategy to grow and
develop Pentathlon activity in Universities will be established as
well as developing the BUCS Championships.
• This will also link with the 2016 World Games in which Tetrathlon
(Swim, Run, Fence & Shoot) will be included for the first time.
• Development Officers to work with identified Universities via
“Pentathlon University Champions”. These roles will be openly
recruited although it is thought that the majority will have a
background of the sport or one of the disciplines.
• The roles will be voluntary but with paid expenses, kit, mentoring
and coach education training.
• Each University will be allocated a kick start fund to drive new
activity.
• University provision will focus on products to get students involved
– Biathlons, Run & Shoot and Battle Biathlon (Fence and Shoot). It is
hoped that these events will form part of the Universities varsity or
intramural activity.
• These competitions will be supported with coaching taster days and
the Development Officers along with the Pentathlon University
Champions will work towards a regular cohort of students who can
form a club and enter the BUCS Championships.
