Presentation summary
• Deduce project objectives
• Sustainable Development Indicators of
Integrated Coastal Zone Management –
concept
• Examples of indicators – Pomorskie Region
• Connections to Baltic Master project
7/6/2015

2
Deduce project objectives
• Development of Sustainable Development
Indicators of Integrated Coastal Zone
Management through Interreg IIIC network
• Preparation of methodology to
measure/monitor sustainable development
related to proper implementation of ICZM
• Actual tool to prepare basis for monitoring
of implementation of European Parliament
Recommendation on Implementation of
Integrated Coastal Zone Management
7/6/2015
Maritime Institute in Gdańsk, Department of Operational Ocenaography
3
Deduce project objective
• Having as background EP’s Recommendation Deduce is
about:
– Producing methodology for SD Indicators of ICZM
– Testing of methodology on real case of some regions around
Europe
– Development of guidelines for regions to report
– Development of common presentation
• Important thing is to use information already being
collected as much as it is possible
• Use of Eurostat, ICES, EEA, etc. – appreciated very much
• Advertisement of SDI of ICZM as tools for better planning
and intercomparison between regions

Sustainable Development
Indicators of Integrated Coastal
Zone Management – concept
To control, as appropriate, further
development of the undeveloped
coast [EU ICZM Recommendation
(2002) Chapter 1 (a), (f) and (h)]
To protect, enhance and
celebrate natural and cultural
diversity [Chapter 1 (a) and (e)]

Sustainable Development
Indicators of Integrated Coastal
Zone Management – concept
To promote and support a dynamic
and sustainable coastal economy
[Chapter 1 (d) and (g)]
To ensure that beaches are clean and
that coastal waters are unpolluted

Sustainable Development
Indicators of Integrated Coastal
Zone Management – concept
To reduce social exclusion and
promote social cohesion in coastal
communities [Chapter 1 (e) and (g)]
To use natural resources wisely
[Chapter 1 (a)]
To recognise the threat to coastal
zones posed by climate change and to
ensure appropriate and ecologically
responsible coastal protection [Chapter
