Connect Akamai and other CDN’s directly to the Network Core Ensure that no single customer (NREN) connection can overflow the backbone But, If there is a big live event that has a huge interest, all you can do is,, Pray or impose rate limit policies, block networks etc.. which you really don’t want to do.. but are forced to.. Because they are during the summer holidays so no one is at campus… NORDUnet Nordic infrastructure for Research & Education • • • • Impact of cloud services Current traffic flows are mainly within the campus (East-West) Servers and services like mail, backup etc. etc. is on campus Future traffic flows will be from Universities towards the cloud’s as in IaaS, PaaS,,, anythingaaS (North-South) Not to mention desktop and mobile device synchronization services and collaboration (dropbox, box etc.) NORDUnet Content, cloud and social media Nordic infrastructure for Research & Education NORDUnet Nordic infrastructure for Research & Education The good news • Major live events can be predicted • The impact of cloud, content and social media services can be foreseen .. But it is happening fast so be prepared and it is not the fault of the CDN’s so don’t shoot the messenger..
