Assumed IP Version


The assumed IP version to be implemented
in Asia/Pac by 2011 is IPv4.
The “dual-stack” Backbone MTAs support:
–


TP4 over CLNP or
TP0-RFC1006-TCP over IPv4
The ATN Routers support the IPv4 SNDCF
and the IPv6 SNDCF which provides
encapsulation of CLNP within IPv4 or IPv6
Issues with IPv6 Integration



1.
ICAO’s goal is that the next generation IPS ATN will be based
on IPv6.
Will require development of Addressing Plan, AS Numbering
Plan, and Routing Policy
The issues for Asia/Pac are concerned with how and when to
implement IPv6.
As IPv6 SNDCF in Routers

Already available from some vendors

There is no change required for the AMHS System

Logical first step in transition to IPv4 Internetwork

 Not yet available by ATN Router vendors
 Upgrade will likely be more costly than COTs

 Advantage would be to operate with current X.25
