How a person feels
Blood Alcohol Concentration
(BAC)
The amount of alcohol in a person’s
blood, given as a percentage
As BAC goes

Could die
BAL = Greater than 0.50
Death
Breathing

Teen Brain and Alcohol
Gastric ADH in the Stomach
An enzyme that begins to break alcohol
down in the stomach
Alcohol then passes into the small
intestine where it is absorbed into the
blood stream.
Females have less ADH
Onto the LIVER!
Alcohol is then transported to the liver
Here alcohol oxidation takes place and converts
alcohol into 2 waste products:
carbon dioxide and water
Cirrhosis of the Liver
Long
Term
Alcohol
Use!
Liver
filters
poisons
from
blood!
Scar tissue replaces normal, healthy tissue blocking the
flow of blood through the organ and preventing it from
working as it should.
