• Static - Assigned by the administrator
• Dynamic - Assigned by a DHCP Server

Ping: Used to test whether a particular host is
reachable across an IP network
– Ping 127.0.0.1: tests the NIC only (Local
Loop Back test)
– Ping (ip address of host): tests connection to
the switch (Loopback test)
– Ping (ip address of another host): tests
connection between two nodes
