NENA Standards Web Site
• www.nena.org
• Standards/Resources
• List all standards
Specific Standard and Other
Useful Documents
• Sometimes NENA standards make it into an RFP
• Defacto standards
• Not all standards are applicable
• Sometimes only a small portion are
• Sometimes the standards listed are horribly out of
date
• Following is “Nate’s” list of the top docs for 2016
• Feel free to disagree….
NENA 08-003 v1 Detailed
Functional and Interface Spec
• Now NENA-STA-010.2-2016
• Outlines the SIP oriented FE’s and interface requirements
necessary to support reception and delivery of NENA i3-type
calls (e.g. calls delivered as SIP and contain a PIDF-LO)
• Conversion gateways are also covered in the spec (though
they will likely be to a separate document for v3)
• Inbound conversion of calls from the PSTN
• Outbound conversion of calls to legacy PSAPs
• This newest version of this standard must be required when
specifying a NG9-1-1 system
NENA 08-002 NENA Func. and Int.
Standards for NG9-1-1 Version 1.0
• Architectural overview of i3
• Established both a SIP and an IMS architecture
• Detailed IMS work was to be handled by ATIS
• Good document to learn i3 – needs to be updated
• This should not be specified as a spec to meet
in an RFP
NENA 08-751 NENA i3 Technical
Requirements Document
• The original requirements that drove the NENA
i3 work
• It needs to be updated
• Some requirements within the document could
be helpful when writing a NG9-1-1 RFP
• The whole spec should not be a requirement in
an RFP though
NENA 04-001
v2 PSAP E9-1-1 PSAP Equipment
• The spec for PSAP equipment within the PSAP
supporting the call takers
• 16 year old standard
• An updated version is being created
• Some aspects of this standard are still
applicable
• Do not specify this entire spec in an RFP –
choose useable parts
NENA 75-001 Security for Next
Generation 9-1-1 Standard
• Only NENA document outlining IT security
• Referred to as the NG-SEC Standard/spec
• 6 years old – needs to be carefully reviewed for
applicable content
• Portions are acceptable to use in current RFPs
• NENA 75-502 Next Generation 9-1-1 Security
Audit Checklist Information Document
• Security checklist is very useful
NENA 04-002
PSAP Master Clock Standard
• Provides specifications on the functional
parameters of a PSAP master clock
• Update in progress (NENA-STA-026.5-2016)
• Some portions still applicable
NENA 04-502 v1 E9-1-1 PSAP
Site Characteristics TID
• Good information on the physical environment
readiness for equipment
• 12 year old spec
• This should not be required in an RFP unless
the vendor is actually building out the PSAP site
as well – and then only some is still applicable
NENA 08-506 Emergency Services
IP Network Design for NG9-1-1

All applicable
Update in progress (NENA-INF-016.2-201X)
