Blogs:
 A word “Blog” is formed from “Web Log”. Similar to e-mail accounts, user
can create “Blog” at specific location on internet.
 It is user’s own space where he / she can keep (post) certain articles,
ideas, news, facts, opinions, etc. which other visitors can view.
 Blogs are usually structured, organized by category and can be updated
as and when required.
 As compared to e-mails, communication is fast, as visitors (so called
bloggers) can quickly view the comments and even post his / her own
thoughts on the subject.
 With reference to a particular topic, as information sharing and opinion
forming can be collectively done, blog is considered as one of the
strongest tool to connect people on social ground.
Steps to create blog:
Step 1: Choose a free blogging software.
Step 2: Register for an account and create your blog
Step 3: Select Your Domain, Theme and Other Options.
Step 4: Start blogging.
Once you've completed steps 1-3, you're ready to join the BLOG and start publishing
content on your blog. There are many more ways you can
customize your blog, but these four easy steps are all you need to follow
in order to start a simple blog.
Advantages of Blogs:
 Quick posting & viewing of information is possible.
 As blog is unlike e-mail communication, no threat of spams.
 No limit to create number of blogs. User can create any number of
blogs.
 Typically recent developments / new information is posted on
blogs. Hence blogs are in a way help to search engines to find new
contents.
 Blogging service and software are economical. Users (bloggers)
can visit blogs with either free of cost or with very minimum
charges.
Forums:
 Forum is the space on internet used to communicate, interact
and collaborate with others. E.g. it is possible by means of discussions,
chat rooms, messaging windows, calendars.
 Information posted on a particular topic can be saved and other
people can see at any time, creating a discussion environment.
 Everything that gets posted can be read any time.
 Forum differs from blog in a sense that blog allows only one
(owner) person to write and maintain the blog; whereas forum allows
multiple users (members of the blog) to post his / her views on the
subject and even change the subject.
Following are integral parts of forum:
•User Group: Members of the forum add up their views about the topic, thus by
expanding the discussions. The users, who are not registered members of forum,
are commonly known as Guests OR Visitors. Visitors can usually view the contents
of the forum. They are typically granted limited type of access to the functions that
do not cause or require database alterations or breach privacy.
•Moderator: The topic and discussion is monitored by a moderator or group of
moderators. These are also users (or employees) of the forum. They are granted
access to the post and threads of all members registered in the forum. Moderators
are responsible for keeping the forum clean by means of arresting spams attacks.
•Administrators: Administrators; who also act as moderator, manage the technical
details required for running the site. Administrators manage the rules; create
sections and sub-sections as required and also perform any database operations
(database backup etc.). Administrators can change or update the appearance
(known as the skin) of a forum.
•Topic: Topic, also commonly known as thread is collection of posts, i.e. displayed
sequentially by means of dates. Thread is defined by subject / title that summarize
the particular discussion. Popularity of thread is typically considered on forums in
reply counts.
Post: A post is nothing but the message submitted by forum member; i.e. user. It
also contains basic details of user, date & time the message is submitted. Members
can typically edit or delete their own posts

VoIP:
Voice over IP (VoIP, abbreviation of voice over internet Protocol)
commonly refers to communication protocols, technologies,
methodologies, and transmission techniques involved in the delivery of
voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP)
networks, such as the Internet. Other terms commonly associated with
VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over
broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, IP communications,
and broadband phone.
Types of VoIP:
VoIP can be typically used in following ways:
Computer to Computer: This is the basic form of VoIP. Users can simply
talk to each other through a piece of software installed on their computers
using a headset.
Phone to Computer: Users can use a VoIP program installed on their
computer to call phones. They can call any number worldwide; landline or
mobile phone.
VoIP Phones: VoIP phones apparently look just like telephones. Users
speak and hear through them just like a phone connected to the internet;
hence the name is VoIP system. Dialing the number is same as that of
normal phone.
VoIP Adapters: VoIP adapters can connect existing telephone to VoIP
system. This means users can use their current phone to use VoIP

and digital technologies.
Any transfer of goods or services from seller to buyer that involves one or
more electronic methods or media can be considered electronic marketing.
E-market is the virtual representation of physical market.
By utilizing ICT, necessary e-marketing related information can be
exchanged i.e. very beneficial for the traders who are geographically

standardized business transaction between a sender and receiver
computer, over some kind of private network or Value Added
Network (VAN). EDI is based on a set of standardized messages for
the transfer of structured and formatted data between computer
applications.
EDI is primarily used by multiple and repeat operations like
supermarkets, automobile industries. Inventory (stock) control and
material management is possible through EDI. EDI can define
multiple transaction sets corresponding to each type of business
document such as invoice, purchase order, etc. It is most
commonly applied in the execution and settlement phase of trade
cycle.
EDI system requires EDI standards, EDI Software, EDI network
and trading community.

and a browser can get connected to his bank’s website to perform any of the
virtual banking functions. In internet banking system, banks have their own

E-map
E- map means Electronic map or digital map. E- maps are virtual images
along with navigation facility. The spatial information of a region or a
landmark is displayed using simple graphics, symbols and lines. Users can
move or browse the map to locate particular region. In case of regular
maps landmark is generally a building while in e-maps it can be a location,
building or a dessert vendor or may be soothing else having user’s interest.
Google Earth is one of the best examples for Digital Mapping.
Google Maps:
A Google map is a web mapping service application and technology provided
by Google. It is also called as “Google Local”. Google map provides that
provides many map-based services, including the Google Maps website,
Google Ride Finder, Google Transit and maps embedded on third-party
websites via the Google Maps API. It offers road maps, a route planner for
traveling by foot, car, bike]or public transport and an urban business
locator for numerous countries around the world. Google Maps satellite
images are not updated in real time; they are several months or years old.
Google Maps uses a close variant of the Mercator projection, so it cannot
show areas around the poles.
Google Earth
Google Earth is a useful application for viewing almost any location in the
world from a bird’s-eye view. It is a stand-alone program which offers
more globe-viewing features, including showing polar areas. The free
version of Google Earth software can be downloaded
at: http://earth.google.com/. By using Google Earth, we can find a
specific place, location (such as a city, landmark, or address)
Wikimapia for finding places, routes:
Wikimapia website provides Google Maps interactive web map that
consists of user-generated information layer on top of Google Maps
satellite imagery and other resources. In December 2009 Wikimapia
launched an API (Application Programming Interface) and made its
content available in several formats for non-commercial use. It allows
selecting any marked object and viewing its description. Apart from this
and the search tool, user can filter and highlight objects by categories.
Visitors can add location by drawing its outline on top of satellite photo,
write a description for it, choose its category and upload referring
pictures. To edit existing tag user need to register on website.
