Snapshots
Principles
Work vhd-file = When VM is started, changes go into this vhd-file
Term does not exist. I made it up for explanatory reasons
Snapshot = Freeze current state, so that you can go back later
While VM is off, or while VM is running (includes saved state)
Snapshot files and settings will never change later
When started later, changes go into attached work vhd-file
Only single snapshot can have a work vhd-file (and can be started)
Apply = Attach new empty work vhd-file to this snapshot
Clears existing work vhd-file
Revert = Re-attach new empty work vhd-file to current snapshot
Clears existing work vhd-file
Is same as: Apply on current snapshot
Delete = Remove snapshot from UI
Snapshot files are not deleted
Pass-through disk access
Networking
Principles
Parent has physical network adapter(s)
Each guest (and parent) has virtual network adapter(s)
Each virtual network adapter is connected to a virtual
switch
Type of virtual switch is:
External – connect to physical network adapter
Internal – parent and guests connections only
Private – guest connections only
Configuration
Use Virtual Network Manager to create virtual switches
Use VM Settings to assign virtual network adapter to
switch
Networking
How the external network is seen in the parent partition
- physical network adapter
- virtual network adapter
- virtual switch
