Millennials — the next generation of workers —
create demand for mobility:
•
Born between 1980 and 2000
•
Lack skills and experience of retirees, but use technology
to fill the gap
•
Have innate ability to use technology
•
Comfortable multitasking
•
Literally demand interactivity as they construct knowledge

Solutions Brief: Public Safety
Description of Application
Provides law enforcement and first responders mobile access to mission-critical databases and provides
dispatching and messaging capabilities. Allows timely submission of incidents, traffic stops and investigations
which are immediately available to other units.
Problem / Challenge
Wireless Enablement
Post-Wireless Result
DEVICES
•Personal data cannot be transmitted over two-way radio
systems as eavesdroppers monitor police channels
•Fire commands need high-res floor plans immediately
•Private data networks have limited coverage and are low
bandwidth.
•Use external wireless modem in conjunction wit MDT or
laptop to enable access to AT&T Mobility’s data network
•Enhance CAD, RMS and NCIC/DMV inquiry tools to for
mobile applications
•Install security applications
•Add fingerprint scanning, printers and other peripherals
•Dispatches and personal inquiries are data-encrypted and
cannot be eavesdropped
•Photographs and floor plans are downloaded easily
•Data accessible anywhere AT&T Mobility provides coverage
•Incident information available to field units immediately
upon being entered into system

Description of Application
Solutions Brief: Case
Management
Provides social workers and parole officers the ability to manage and update individual case files in the field and
update information to centralized databases.
Problem / Challenge
•Paper based forms must be keyed into mainframe causing
delay and backlogs in updating case files
•Frequent errors in transcribing handwritten forms cause
additional delays and corrupted records
•No way to verify when case workers visit families
•Lack of central tools causes duplicate appointments
Wireless Enablement
•Use wireless PDA or laptop with wireless data cards to
enable access to AT&T Mobility’s data network
•Install database and/or collaboration S/W application for
remote access
•Install remote access capability and security tools
•Add GPS peripheral for time and position information
Post-Wireless Result
•Real-time data allows social workers to assess environment
for child and to quickly reassign child to different family
•“No-shows” updated in local NCIC database in real-time
•Improved efficiencies to do more interviews in a day
•GPS positioning verifies time and place of case worker
DEVICES
SOFTWARE
VPN software provide secured
access of existing parole databases
Most state parole systems have Web enable their
host applications. Users can log on to the system
through a browser over AT&T Mobility network.

Solutions Brief: Fleet
Management
GPS modems provide map coordinates and time stamps of agency vehicle locations based on user-defined
parameters. Exception reports or alerts can be generated to notify fleet managers of vehicles outside pre-defined
“geo-fence” or routes. Vehicle location data can be time stamped and recorded in archives for future reference.
Problem / Challenge
•Need to prove agency vehicle stop or performed its
assigned services other than driver’s record
•Parents expect school districts to know where buses are
•Reduced budget mandates increased efficiencies
•Eliminate deadheads or repeat runs due to citizen
complaints that service wasn’t performed
Wireless Enablement
•Integrated GPS receiver and AT&T Mobility Data
•Install mapping software or subscribe to hosted service
•Install sensors and optional emergency button
•Define reporting requirements, and frequency of polling
•Define route, landmark or fence polygons for exceptions
Post-Wireless Result
DEVICES
•Able to answer liability claims with vehicle time/location data
•Eliminate driver logs and increase stops/service call per day
•Improved driver and passenger safety
•Locate lost, stolen, or unaccounted vehicles
•Improved driver compliance to agency vehicle policies
•Reports used to analyze route efficiencies and exceptions

Description of Application
Solutions Brief: Traffic
Management
Using sensors and wireless machine-to-machine devices, collects and transmits critical information to monitor and
manage traffic in real time. Traffic data used to provide instructions to traffic signals at high-volume times, updating
public road signs, incident management, traffic planning, news partners and to meet state requirements for
highway traffic data collection for tax purposes..
Deployments
Problem / Challenge
Wireless Enablement
•States require reporting vehicle counts and classifications
•Commuters want real-time traffic information and alerts
•Legacy hardware can not provide the type of data required
•Cost of leased circuits to sensor collectors and message
boards is cost=prohibitive in many cases
•Install wireless units where copper or fiber options are not
available or cost-effective
•Wireless updating of driver information road signs
•Transmit sensor and message board data over the AT&T
Mobility IP Network.
Post-Wireless Result
•Vehicle count data transmitted to databases automatically.
• Able to wirelessly send incident information to driver
message signs
•Use of wireless allows for more detection loops, faster
implementation and more capability
•Leased line expense reduced
DEVICES

Understanding Fundamental Value Drivers
A real time wireless solution provides…
Ability to access business information at the point of need and update it in real time
• Mobile employees can access and update information without the time and expense of travel
• Mobile employees can access and update information without engaging back-office staff
• Information they access or provide is more up to date and more accurate
Optimization across the dispersed employees, assets and customers
• Employees’ activities in the field can now be coordinated in real time
• Asset location and status; inventory quantity, quality and location
• Customers-facing employees can now access data and knowledge from across the
organization in real time
• Routine tasks such as data capture, data entry and print can now be done immediately when
needed and in one step rather than over time in various places across the organization
Faster and more effective response to change
• Employees across the company learn about important changes faster and can respond to
them faster and more effectively
