Transcript A proposal for structured activities in Biometric identity

BioSecure :
A Network of Excellence
on Biometric identity
authentication
B. Dorizzi, GET-INT, France
G. Chollet, GET-ENST, Paris
BioSecure : Objectives
Federate the teams involved in the
biometric field
Proposal for a NoE with the following
objectives :
Identify and meet the scientific and technical
challenges in the Biometric field
Explore non technological aspects of biometrics
such as security v.s. privacy, acceptability,
reliability, impact on society and ethical aspects
Some specific Objectives :
Reference algorithms for most of the
Biometric modalities
Evaluation protocols on publically available
databases
Fusion of modalities
4 weeks residential workshop in sept. 2005
General approach foreseen
Collaborative research program
Creation of a European development and
evaluation platform for the Technological
Research
Creation of a European Certification Center and
usage observatory
Support technology : integration on smart-card,
PDA etc…
Citizen awareness
 Need and Relevance
 Commercial products still present some defects :
Performance, Variability, User Acceptance, Sensor
Variability
 European efforts are disseminated
 Europe has usage and legislation particularities,
cultural diversity
 Network

