Introduction
• Multicasting appears as a straightforward
solution to facilitate one- or many-to-many
delivery of packet switched service.
• In B3G network, the UMTS core network are
replaced by pure IP mobility and multicast
functionality
Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast
Service
• MBMS is defined as a network layer UMTS
service that adopts a unidirectional (downstream)
point-to-multipoint data delivery mechanism.
• The Broadcast-Multicast Service Center (BM-SC)
– Control information flows exchanged with 3PP of
MBMS data
– Manage AAA information associated with third
parties

MBMS Support in Converged UMTS-IP
Environment
• The UMTS CN towards a fully IP-based
mobile-aware network, a hybrid mobility
management model based on both UMTS
and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) mechanisms is
proposed.
Target Network Architecture
• RASH: executing MIP function and traditional PS
service
– Hide radio access technologies
– Terminate the access stratum and the non-access
stratum

Conclusions
• this paper has described the principles of the
multicast mode MBMS architectural.
• Inter-RASN mobility to multicast sessions is
provided through the specified RNS relocation
procedure enhanced with the establishment of
a short time tunnel for preventing packet loss.
