Foundation subjects:
As Historians we will be studying the history of the Romans. We will research how and
what the Romans did for us and what elements of our lives were shaped by Roman
invention and craft. We will have a visit from a Roman Soldier who will delve further in
to the day to day lives of Romans and introduce the children to range of artefacts to
enrich their learning.
As Geographers we will link in with the Roman theme and study the rise and fall of the
Roman Empire. The children will research in to trade routes, items that were traded
and how and why the Romans were known as one of the greatest conquerors within
history. We will research Roman towns and why they were important to the growth of
the empire.
As Designers we will be making a Roman machine of war. We will research the
weapons used and their effectiveness in battle. The children will design a miniature
catapult using a range of pulleys, weights and cogs to enable a full working model.
As Artists we will use a range of skills to design Roman Mosaics and masks. We will
research how and why they were used in Roman times and interpret our personalities
in to our designs.
As Musicians we will be exploring beat, notation and performance.
Events:
Roman Soldier Visit
We will be visited by a
historian who specialises in the
Roman period. He will
introduce the children to
Roman artefacts such as
weapons and armour. This is
an all day event based at
Lincewood School.
We will also be attending the
Essex Farming Day based at
Writtle College. This is a
chance to see some how food
makes it from farm to fork and
the processes involved.
Dance Festival
Year 4 will perform a dance to
the students and their families
