The Roman Republic formed on 509 B.C.E. Patricians
(high class people) came to resent Etruscan rule. The
patricians tried to drive out the king and they did. They
replaced the king with a republic. In the republic officials
were elected to work and help Rome. Some of this power
were in the hands of a senate. A senate is a group of 300
men elected to serve the Roman republic for life. The
power were also in the hands of a consul. A they consul
are 2 men elected to command the army they were also
advised by a senate. The Roman Republic was a
democratic government and only patricians could be in
this government. The plebeians had to fight for what they
wanted like demanding for more political rights.

of the Orders. The conflict grew over time when the republic was at war. The
republic’s enemies were their neighbors. Plebeians were forced into war it was the
patricians choice to declare war or not. The struggle was miserable in 494 B.C.E.
when Rome had 25,00 to 40,000 people there. Angry people took over the
patricians power . All the plebeians went to a nearby hill and camped there until the
republic would give them their demands and rights. Rome was now in a very deep
hole. Without the plebeians the patricians feared their army would fall apart. The
city farms also had no food producing because the plebeians weren't there . The
patricians had only a little choice but to make a deal with the plebeians.
This is when the Plebeians waited on a hill until their
demands and rights were given to them.
