The Roman Empire
By AD 117 the Roman Empire
included the whole of Italy,
all the lands around the
Mediterranean and much of
Europe, including England,
Wales and parts of Scotland.
Roman Invasion one
 In August 55 B.C. (55 years before Jesus was born) the
Roman general, Emperor Julius Caesar invaded
Britain.
 He took with him two Roman legions.
What did the romans call London?
The Romans called London
'Londinium'.

Who was in the Roman army?
 Only men could be in the Roman Army, also you had
to be at least 20 years old.
You were not supposed to get married while you
were a soldier.
A bit about slaves
 Sometimes, if Roman parents didn't like their
children, they sold them to be slaves! It was illegal but
they still did it.
Roman eating!
 The romans would never use a knife and fork. Rich Romans liked to eat
exotic food, such as stork, roast parrot and even flamingo!
Roman beliefs
 The Romans believed in gods and goddesses who
ruled over different areas of life. Neptune was the
god of the ocean. Temples were built to honour the
gods, and people would visit them with offerings.

 With my husband King Prasutagus I rule over
the tribe of the Iceni in the east of this land.
When the Romans came my husband made
friends with them and he was allowed to keep
his lands.
A fact about the romans
 Rome was founded in 753 BC by its first king, Romulus. It grew into a
rich and powerful city during the next few hundred years.
