mountain fortress called Masada
• Romans sent army to end revolt
• Romans had to build massive ramp to get
there
• Zealots took own lives / refused to become
Roman slaves
RESULTS OF FIRST REVOLT – YEAR 73
• Roman’s killed most of people in Jerusalem
• Took many surviving Jews back to Rome as
slaves (Mediterranean Sea)
• Thousands left Jerusalem
• Moved throughout Mediterranean area /
Egypt (Diaspora)
• Populations of Jewish communities starts to
grow again

• Some Jews stayed in Jerusalem with Roman
rule
• Fighting begins again
• Romans beat up Jews again
• Punishment = all Jews banned from Jerusalem
• Caught in or near city = death
• Jews continue migrating across Europe
• Year 130s
