• It is centrally
located in the
Mediterranean
region.
• The Alps and
the
Mediterranean
Sea provide
protection.

•Alps to the north provided protection from invasion
•Mediterranean Sea and Rome’s inland location
on the Tiber River protected Rome from invasion
Economic
•Central location in Mediterranean made it an important
commercial center. What do I mean by commercial?
•Land surrounding the Tiber river was fertile for farming
•Proximity to Greek colonies led to knowledge of
growing grapes and olives
