THE EXPANSION OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE

EXPANSION DURING 509-264 B.C.E.
One key event during this time period is the
Romans signed a treaty with their Latin
neighbors to the south.
One positive effect on the Romans is that they
gained land from the Italians.
One negative effect on the Romans is that the
citizens had to pay the government to expand the
empire.

One key event during this time period is that the
3rd Punic War lasted 3 years. Hannibal's army
destroyed farms and had to replace them.
One positive effect on the Roman’s was that the
Punic Wars expanded the Roman’s power and
territory.
One negative effect is that they had to fight in
the Punic Wars because the land they were
trying to take over.

One key event during this time period was that
Julius Caesar became dictator for life and made
many reforms.
One positive effect on the Romans was that
Caesar started new colonies and granted
citizenship to his people.
One negative effect on the Romans was with so
many slaves working, it took away jobs of many
people.
EXPANSION DURING 44 B.C.E.-14 C.E.
One key event during this time period was that
Roman emperors established a Pax Romana.
One positive effect on the Roman’s was that
Augustus encouraged education and literature.
One negative effect on the Roman’s was that
Julius Caesar was murdered.
THE PUNIC WAR
The Punic wars were fought between the Roman’s and the
Carthaginians. There were 3 of these wars. The 3rd one
lasted for about 3 years.
JULIUS CAESAR
Julius Caesar was a general for the army in Rome. Then he
led his army across the Danube River. He then became
dictator for life and made many reforms.
AUGUSTUS
Augustus took over Rome after Caesar was killed. He
encouraged education and literature. He also punished
people who were unfaithful to their husband or wives.
ROMAN EMPIRE
The Roman Empire was one of the biggest empires. It
covered the upper part of Africa, most of Europe, and
around Syria.
ROMAN SOLIDER
The roman soldiers fought in all the wars such as
the Punic Wars. They were lead by Julius Caesar
up until he became dictator.
