aristocrats and the wealthy be in charge of everybody
else
-Created a new system that increased devotion to the
polis, rather than just the individual
-Made an assembly of 500 citizens, it was open and any
Athenian (male) could submit legislation or offer
suggestions to change the way Athens was run
-Father of Athenian democracy along with Solon and
Pisistratus
Tiberius Gracchus
The Gracchi Brothers
The Gracchi fought for the oppressed
majority.
The Gracchi were killed for their attempts.
Gaius Gracchus
The Patricians got rid of the reforms after
murdering the Gracchi.
The Gracchi are sometimes seen as one of
the major causes of the downfall of the
Roman empire.
The Gracchi are related to MLK Jr. in that
they were killed for their beliefs, they fought
for the oppressed, and that they were
eloquent public speakers.
