Author: The Apostle Paul.

imprisonment.
Audience: Timothy, Paul’s closest co-worker and
“beloved son.”
Occasion for the Letter: From Timothy’s point of
view, he needed exhortation to remain faithful in
gospel ministry. From Paul’s point of view, he
longed for Timothy to come and minister to him.
Character of the book: A very personal letter
from Paul to Timothy, urging Timothy to be
faithful to the ministry entrusted to him.
