1 Since 27 B.C. the Roman Empire was a superpower and
at its peak the empire conquered and controlled a vast
territory stretching through Europe, Africa and Asia.
The eastern half was
called the Eastern
Roman Empire or
Byzantine Empire,
and the western
part was the
Western Roman
Empire or just the
Roman Empire.
When the Romans started to slowly lose their power,
around 395 A.D., the Huns became one of many trying
to take Rome’s place as a superpower, but never
succeeded.
They are mainly remembered for
their leader, Attila the Hun, for
the tremendous damage they
inflicted on Rome and how
frightening they were.
• Rua brought the Huns
together but died
later on, this lead to
Attila and Bleda
having the power.
While this was going
on the Huns became
stronger and made an
agreement with
Theodosius II. It was
for Attila and Bleda
to withhold from
advancing their
forceful troops.

• Attila attacked the
Byzantine empire and
won as a treaty Attila
was paid more than
6,000 roman pounds
of gold including
2,100 roman pounds
of gold annually.
• Bleda died so Attila became the sole ruler of the
empire. Theodosius II dispatched troops to fight
with Attila's men but unfortunately they lost this
one and were forced to give more gold to the Hun’s.

• After Theodisius II died,
Attila became very angry and
decided to take out his fury
on the Western Roman
Empire. Attila did this by
saying he wanted to marry
Honoria who was forbidden
to wed, thus causing
Valentinian III to be
unhappy. Attila took this
opportunity to invade and
gain more land. After seeing
Pope Leo I, he left and lost
his interest in gaining land
thus causing many theories
of why he backed out.
Pope Leo I
•In 453 A.D., Attila died unexpectedly after choking
to death on his own blood. Some people think that
Attila’s bride, Ildico but others think that Marcian
might have killed or played a role in killing him.
• When Attila dies, none
of his sons were
competent enough to
lead the kingdom. In
less then a year the
Byzantine with the
Western Roman Empire’s
worst enemy ceased to
exist and the Hun
Empire fell and faded
into History
• Attila was a barbarian,
he allowed his men to
loot the place inside out
and to kill and rape
residents. His nickname
was “The Scourge God!”
because of his cruelty
