Digestion…Fatigue &
Energy…and Hormones…
What are the “keys” to good health ? ? ?
What are the links between diet, digestion
problems, fatigue, and hormone imbalances…
A plan to address digestive problems, fatigue and
hormone imbalances, so you can get back on the
path to optimal health !
Digestion…The Key to Health
Identifying digestive imbalances…
Approaches to help resolve digestive issues…

Digestive Problems…
• A Common Cause of Most Chronic Illnesses !
• It begins with… Poor eating habits…
• It continues with … Poor food choices…
• Then, it ends with… Reliance on pharmaceuticals
and OTC’s for relief of gastritis, indigestion and
reflux…
A Common Cause of Chronic Illnesses…
•
•
•
•
•
•
Inflammatory Bowel Disorders… (IBS, Colitis, etc…)
Auto-immune Conditions… Arthritis, Crohn’s, Psoriasis, Lupus, etc…
Fatigue (General Malaise)…
Failure to Thrive… (Walking Wounded Syndrome)
Auto-toxicity (increased toxic build-up from within)…
Endocrine Hormone Imbalances… PMS, Infertility, Estrogen
Dominance…
These are very broad categories with literally hundreds of diseases
whose cause can be traced back to digestive problems…
Poor Eating Habits…
• Eating under stress…
Digestion is mainly a parasympathetic function…
Eating should be a pleasurable experience…
Eating in a rush slows and impairs digestion !
• Improper Chewing (mastication) of food…
Food is not properly broken down enough for stomach
acid and digestive enzymes to properly digest food…
No time to mix with saliva, where digestion starts…
Each mouthful should be chewed 32 times before
swallowing ! ( also helps with weight management !)
Poor Eating Habits…
• Drinking quantities of fluids while eating…
Dilution of the gastric contents and digestive juices…
Slowing of digestion…
Proper hydration during the day helps prevent the
desire to drink while eating. (Helps produce saliva)
• Proper hydration should be 1oz. of water for every 2lbs. of
body weight daily… Most people do not drink enough
water !
Poor Food Choices…
• Empty-calorie processed Carbohydrates…
Little to no fiber content…
No support for the friendly GI flora…
Slow, insidious breakdown of the GI ecology…
• Allergenic Foods…(sets the stage for chronic gastric problems)
Wheat/Gluten containing grains… MAJOR
Dairy Products… MAJOR
Peanuts…
Soy…
Poor Food Choices…
• Processed meats…
Generally high in fat and in preservatives (nitrates)
• General lack of key vitamins, minerals and
co-factors leads to insidious degradation of
the GI tract and ill health…
Vitamins A, C, B6, Folic Acid, B12, Magnesium,
Zinc, Calcium, phytonutrients, antioxidants, etc…
Reliance on pharmaceuticals for relief…
• Millions of dollars are spent every year on antacid
medications…
• Many prescription antacids are now OTC !
• People are self-medicating… Who’s watching ? ! ? !
• What can happen with chronic antacid use ? ? ?
Poor digestion and absorption of proteins…
Increased pathogenic bacteria, parasites, and yeast in the gut…
Degradation of GI tract lining…
Chronic Illnesses…
Reliance on pharmaceuticals for relief…
• We are creating a serious health crisis for ourselves years
down the road…
• People can’t correlate their chronic use of antacids with
health degradation…
• Side-effects of medications can cause increased toxicity
and diminished liver function… Cimetadine (Tagamet)
slows phase II detoxification and can inhibit the body’s
ability to remove toxins…
Where do we start ? ? ?
A person with ANY chronic illness should
ALWAYS look to correct digestive problems
FIRST…
Anything you do to improve your health
without improving digestive health first will
gain modest results at best…
Let’s look at the basics…
• Digestion, absorption and elimination must be working properly…
• Digestion :
Heartburn/Indigestion : (mild to moderate)
Lactenz 2 capsules with each meal…
(provides vegetable-based digestive enzymes and friendly bacteria to help
ecolonize the GI tract)
Gastrex 2 or 3 10 minutes prior to meals (helps to relieve heartburn or gastritis
while promoting the healing of the stomach and duodenum)…
OR…
DiGest 1 tablet (suck on for 30 sec then swallow 30 minutes prior to meal…)
stimulates natural HCL and pancreatic enzyme production and release…
Let’s look at the basics…
• Digestion : (continued)
Heartburn/Indigestion : (mild to moderate)
If indigestion persists, use Zypan 1 – 3 tablets with meals…
Caution : Don’t use Zypan with ulcer or gastritis…
Persistent indigestion is common with elderly folks and those who have
compromised digestion… As you get relief, try switching to DiGest
for long term use and use Zypan for larger meals if necessary.
Let’s look at the basics…
• Patients with Gastritis, Reflux or Ulcers taking antacid medications…
HiPep Tablets 1 tablet 30 minutes prior to meals… (helps to reduce
stomach acid, promotes healing of the stomach and esophagus)… If you
suck on the tablet for 30 seconds prior to swallowing, it works better…
Gastrex 3 – 6 10 minutes prior to meals…(helps to reduce stomach acid,
promotes healing of the stomach and esophagus)…
In many cases, the patient may be able to discontinue their antacid
medication after using these products. They may then use Lactenz,
Multizyme, or DiGest regularly or Zypan occasionally for indigesion.
Let’s look at the basics…
• Patients with lower bowel gas, bloating, constipation or cramping…
Once we begin to improve digestion, the whole system starts to heal…
These patients may still have small and large intestinal problems and
may also be suffering from an imbalance in the GI ecology…
This ecology is a wonderful, complex system kept in balance through
proper eating, digestion, proper liver/gallbladder function, the immune
system, friendly flora, and food specifically used by the flora to help
keep the flora colony and the bowel healthy…
Now, lets look at the role of the liver/gallbladder in GI health…
Let’s look at the basics…
• The liver produces bile, which performs several functions…
Breakdown, repackaging and absorption of dietary fats in the gut…
Helps neutralize stomach acid in the duodenum along with bicarb…
Carries toxins from the liver to the GI tract for excretion in the feces…
Bile should flow freely from the gallbladder with a meal, especially
one containing fats…
If the bile quality is low, or it’s release from the gallbladder sluggish, it
can cause… constipation, poor fat absorption, poor release of toxins,
GI symptoms and degraded health…
Let’s look at the basics…
• Poor bile quality or release… How do you know you have it ? ? ?
GI discomfort after eating a fatty meal… Still feel full 2 hours after…
Light-colored stools (should be dark brown in color)…
High-floating or oily stools… Do you see food in your stools ?
Constipation…
Use one or more of the following products :
A-F Betafood 3 tablets 3X/day (helps improve bile quality and flow)
LivTon 2 tablets 2X/day (helps improve bile quality and flow)
Livaplex 3 tablets 2X/day (general liver support)…
Globe Artichoke 4ml/day (most powerful single herb for bile health)
Use caution with these products if known gallstones are present…
Let’s look at the basics…
•
Constipation…
Once proper bowel flora, digestion and bile flow have been established,
constipation usually resolves… However…If not…
Other important factors in bowel health and constipation relief…
Dietary fiber… This does more than provide bulk for stool. It provides food
for friendly bacteria which manufacture short-chained fatty acids that maintain
a healthy bowel pH and help keep the gut cells healthy. It also helps to prevent
bowel cancer…
GastroFiber 3 – 5 capsules 2 – 3 X/day with 12 oz. water… If GastroFiber
tends to increase constipation, then find Slippery Elm powder and use 2 – 3
X/day with 12 oz. water… Or Use Okra-Pepsin E3 3 – 6 capsules 2X/day
with 12 oz. Water…
If constipation is not resolved, use Colax 1 –2 tablets before bedtime work up to
effective dose, then drop back to minimal dose as possible…
Drink 1 oz. water for every 2 lb. of body weight daily ! ! !
Let’s look at the basics…
• IBS, Colitis, bowel inflammation…
First step is to identify the cause of the inflammation…
Dysbiosis or imbalance in the GI ecology due to bacterial
overgrowth, parasites, or fungus…
Food allergy or sensitivity…
Food or Drug consumption…
If these cannot be readily identified, you can still make attempts to reduce
inflammation, promote healing, and restore balance to the GI
ecology… See you healthcare practitioner to get help identifying what
you should use…
Let’s look at the basics…
• Re-balancing the GI Ecology… Adding back friendly bacteria…
Lactenz 2 capsules 2 – 3 X/day for 30 – 60 days
Lactic Acid Yeast 1 – 2 wafers 2 –3 X/day for 30 – 60 days
Continue to eat high fiber foods or take fiber supplements like GastroFiber
or Slippery Elm. Consistent use of fiber in the diet will help keep a
healthy GI Ecology…
Side Note : If you need to use probiotics all the time, it means you’re not
keeping a healthy floral balance . Look to increase dietary fiber…
Fatigue and Energy…
Many people are fatigued and tired all the
time.
Why ? ? ? Here are a few BIG reasons…
Daily stresses of job, work, family…
Poor food choices…
Poor lifestyle choices…
Toxicity…
Any one or combination of the above can cause FATIGUE !
Fatigue and Energy…
Now… Let’s take a closer look at some of
these factors…
Daily Stresses : Stress takes energy, and forces the body
into a “fight or flight” neuro-endocrine response… Short
term is not a problem… However, stress can be a big part
of our daily lives and that’s when it gets to be a problem…
Constantly in a catabolic or “breakdown” state…
The body never fully recovers after sleep or rest…
Slow, insidious depletion of health and energy…
Fatigue and Energy…
Poor food choices : Choosing foods that are processed
over fresh, minimally processed foods can contribute to
fatigue…
Fast foods… High in fat and simple carbs… makes you
fat while depleting all of your nutrient reserves…
Depleted foods : White bread, pasta, sugar, cereals… Low
nutrients and loaded with simple carbs… same as above !
Starchy foods : Potatoes, corn, rice… Simple carbs…
Keep these to a minimum if you want to lose weight…
Fatigue and Energy…
Poor Lifestyle Choices : Lack of physical activity, smoking,
drinking, drugs… The smoking, drinking and drugs are
self-explanatory… When you’re physically active on a
consistent basis, it increases metabolism, helps move
nutrients around the body, helps eliminate toxins, and helps
to oxygenate the cells… You create more lasting energy or
endurance…
Toxicity : Toxins can slow our metabolism by blocking
energy production, interfering with normal body functions
and can cause chronic illness and degeneration… Certain
toxins can actually interfere with hormone metabolism…
Fatigue and Energy…
So… What can I do to improve energy ?
Make sure your digestion and elimination is working properly !
Change your diet ! Complex carbs, fresh, minimally processed
vegetables, meats and fish. NO sugar ! Keep starches and simple
carbs to a minimum…
This will keep blood sugar balanced and help stabilize insulin… It helps
to prevent the drastic ups and downs of imbalances due to simple
dietary carbs…
Do the Purification Program : It can help you remove toxins and get
you on the path to health…
Take a good whole-food Multi vitamin and B-complex : This will
provide the basic nutrients to keep your body with the key vitamins,
minerals and nutrients to optimize metabolism and energy production.
Fatigue and Energy…
What else ? ? ?
While the suggestions on the previous slide can help reduce
fatigue, there are some key nutrients and herbs that can
also help improve energy and function…
You should discuss your specific situation with your
healthcare practitioner. They can determine the best
combination of nutrients, herbs and approach for your
particular situation or condition…
Hormone Imbalances…
This is a very broad area and really needs a
few targeted presentations that focus on the
various aspects of imbalance…
The first steps to correcting these imbalances
is to make sure that your digestion and
elimination is working properly and that
your diet/lifestyle is properly balanced.
Hormone Imbalances…
What factors affect proper hormone function ? ? ?
Problems with digestion, the liver/gallbladder and
elimination…
Stress ! ! !
Improper diet, lifestyle and lack of key nutrient intake…
Toxicity…
Hormone Imbalances…
Common Symptoms of Hormone Imbalances…
PMS… Hot Flashes… Low energy… Blood Sugar
Problems… Loss of strength… Loss of Libido…
Unclear or foggy thinking… to name a few !
While there are targeted nutritional and herbal remedies
that can help in these areas, you should work with your
healthcare practitioner to identify a plan or approach for
your specific situation.
But… I have a lot of these
symptoms… And…
I’m confused, and I don’t know at this point
what to do or where to start ! ! !
This seems overwhelming to me and I want to
give up ! ! !
Don’t Worry ! ! !
This is why we are going to help you identify
your specific imbalances… And…
Help you take a systematic approach to
regaining your health that’s designed for
you !
Where do I start ? ? ?
You’ll need to complete one or both of the following
Health Questionnaires…
Toxicity Questionnaire…
Symptom Survey Questionnaire…
These questionnaires will identify areas of
imbalance and help determine a place for you to
start so your body can heal…
Where do I start ? ? ?
Get your completed questionnaires to your
healthcare practitioner, and schedule some time to
review the results and your customized plan to get
well…
You’ll feel more comfortable knowing that you have
a step by step plan to bring you back to optimal
health !
Can’t I do this on my own ? ? ?
Of course you can !
Making better dietary and lifestyle choices and making sure
your digestion, and elimination is working properly is a
great first step !
However, I strongly recommend you work with your
healthcare practitioner to get a broader perspective and a
specific step-by-step approach to get consistent results…
Where do I start ? ? ?
Remember, the KEYS to good health, like we discussed
earlier, start out with the following…
Proper digestion… Proper elimination… Healthy food
choices… Healthy lifestyle choices…
Along with…
Targeted nutritional and herbal supplements to help
provide the “missing ingredients” to gently provide the
body systems the things it needs to heal and properly
function…
