The Glance Project
 During ATLAS installation, the Technical Coordination
was responsible, among other things, of managing the
databases for the installed equipment (inventory,
configuration,position, cabling)
 Data was stored using different:
 Technologies
 Model
 Terminology
 Different interest related to the data
 Multiple retrieve systems = hard to manage

The Glance expands
 ATLAS Experiment is an international collaboration where more
than 37 countries, 172 institutes and laboratories, 2900
physicists, engineers, and computer scientists plus 700 students
participate.
 Management of ATLAS involves:
 Equipments (there are 110 500 equipments, 22000 detector
positions in UX15)
 Members
 Appointments
 Talks
 Papers
 Using Glance as a first application, it was possible to build
several systems to support ATLAS Management

ATLAS Traceability
Gather all equipment
information as radiation
level, position, system,
type, physical
characteristics, etc
All these features help ATLAS follow the
security rules to remove, repair, transport or
eliminate radioactive material.

 One retrieval tool for many systems
 Can be used to create systems to manage any domain, such
as equipment installation, members, papers
 Search and insert/update data in different databases
 10 most used systems developed in collaboration between
Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and ATLAS
Technical Coordination (13 in total, 1 in collaboration with
LHCb)
 Conexions between the systems support exchange of
information
 No need to store data in more than one place
 Privilege system
 Decentralization of ATLAS activities
