THE CONGRESS
OF SOCIOLOGY
IN AUSTRALIA
2002
(To Brisbane via
Tokyo)
PART I
A Day in Tokyo
NOTIFICATION FOR THE
SPONSORING FUNDS
On their long and tiring trip to Brisbane a
group of prominent Russian sociologists made
a mandatory one-day halt in Tokyo. No matter
how they liked (or disliked) Japan, even on the
excursions they were continuously discussing
their professional stuff and by doing so were
getting themselves prepared for the
forthcoming Congress in Brisbane. Thus not a
single penny of donors’ funding had been
wasted even during free time.

Commonly, people think Tokyo, like Hell, is fully
over-populated with sweaty little folks—a kind
of a barrel packed with salted anchovies striving
to death to jump back into the open sea.
This is definitely not true. Tokyo takes you by
surprise with its parks, lawns, gardens, and
empty spaces. There is a lot of blue sky
everywhere there.
Beautiful pine-trees grow right in the center of Tokyo.
Farewell to Tokyo,
Farewell to Japan,
And all the best to you, little marmot.
Keep in touch.
