Each student must have:
 Scientific Calculator (can be purchased from
Cornwallis Academy for £5.50)
 Black pens
 Pencil
 Ruler
 Protractor
 Compass
It is essential they are brought to every lesson so students can practise using
their equipment correctly
 Students not using pencil and ruler to draw diagrams accurately
 Forgetting to ask for tracing paper to complete transformations
 Forgetting to write the units when they are needed ( e.g. cm², m³)
 Forgetting a key for a Stem and Leaf Diagram
 Not reading the scales on graphs carefully
 Not drawing a Line of Best Fit on a Scatter Graph
 Not putting the answer to probability questions as either a fraction, a decimal or a percentage
 Not rounding to the required accuracy the question states (e.g. two decimal places, three significant figures)
 When multiplying out a bracket students must remember to multiply everything in the bracket
 Students rounding numbers part way through a calculation (unless it is an estimating question)
 Trying to use calculators to work out time differences
 Leaving questions blank
Examiners estimate that candidates who show working out get 10% more marks than those who don’t
