hard
• But not in this order
 test makers know
students work in a
linear progression
What’s the Purpose of the
CAHSEE?
• to improve student achievement in high
school
• to help ensure that students who graduate
from high school can demonstrate gradelevel competency in reading, writing, and
mathematics.
Important Dates
• Tuesday, March 16, 2010
– English Language Arts Test
(8am-12pm but untimed)
• Wednesday, March 17, 2010
– Math Test (8am-12pm but
untimed)
English Language Arts Section
• Reading Section
– Vocabulary
– 50% literary texts
– 50% informational texts
• Writing Section
– Writing strategies
– Applications (essay)
– Conventions
Math Section
• Content Standards up to Algebra
– Statistics
– Data analysis & probability
– Number sense
– Measurement & geometry
– Algebra and functions
– Mathematical reasoning
• NO Calculators
Results
• Results are returned about 8 weeks after the
test.
• Opportunities
– Every 10th grader must take the CAHSEE
– 2 more opportunities Junior Year
– 3 more opportunities Senior Year
• If you do not pass one section, you must take
just that one section again.
• AVID has had a 100% passing rate for the past
2 years.
