Science/Health Curriculum Family Life Unit taught in the spring. Takes place toward the end of May. Students are able to do alternate work if parents choose to have them do so. Sessions will be held in early spring for parents to review materials and discuss concepts. Reading Taught for literary experience, reading to inform and reading to perform a task. Study story elements and reading strategies through core books, National Geographic, and other approved media for instruction. Students will have nightly reading assignments to reach the grade level goal of 25 books for the school year. Writing Writer’s Workshop is used, and we focus on the 6+1 Traits model of writing Ideas Voice Conventions Organization Sentence Fluency Word Choice + Presentation Specials Art, Music, Physical Education, Band, Chorus Art, Music, PE, and Media are once a week Chorus is on Thursday afternoons Band is taught once a week for 35-45 minutes Students will have band buddies to ensure they get materials presented in class while they were gone.
