MSU Project Goals
1. Involve faculty in a process of
examining and evaluating the liberal
learning goal for Quantitative and
Scientific Reasoning (QR/SR).
2. Assess QR/SR of students at
Michigan State University
3. Use the data to guide curricular
change and faculty teaching practice
Phase 1: Summer 2007
Align the JMU Assessment with the Needs of
MSU
• Developed 8 learning goals for QR and SR
• Aligned the JMU assessment items with the
objectives
• Created items to fill “gaps” in the alignment
between JMU items and MSU objectives
Phase 2: Fall 2007

• Pilot the JMU and MSU QR/SR items in
