• A method of publishing files to the Internet,
allowing users to subscribe to a feed and
receive new files automatically by
subscription, usually at no cost.
• Used largely for audio files.
• Podcasts can be audio or video.
• Podcasting does not require a media player.

Discussion Boards or Forums
An online bulletin board where users can
receive feedback from posted messages
• Two types of discussion boards:
– Moderated
• An administrator or moderator ensure the
discussion stays on topic and conforms to
netiquette rules
– Unmoderated
• No administrator or moderator, which may
allow discussion to degenerate

• Sending short text messages to a device
such as a cell phone or pager
• Messages are no longer than a few
hundred characters
• Messaging that takes place between two
or more mobile devices

TO: Web address of addressee (sometimes name)
FROM: web address of author
DATE: the date the message is created
SUBJECT: topic of the message

--cc (carbon copy) for additional recipient names
and web addresses
--bc (blind copy) OR bcc (blind complimentary copy)
notation for recipient's) that are hidden
from view

E-Mail Body
Body: the message of the memo
--usually contains a request for action
--sentences should be kept short and to
the point
--intermix short and longer sentences
--avoid very long sentence when possible
--include a desired action and a deadline
for completion

• Signature: the name and contact
information of the sender.
--a user interface for the creation of an
electronic signature that automatically
attaches to the end of every message.
--include contact information: name, title,
phone and fax numbers and a snail-mail
address

• Attachment: files (documents)
that are sent along with the email

Written form of communication and
can be printed and viewed by anyone or
used as official legal documentation.
Do not use All CAPS, which is
considered shouting, or all lowercase
Do not spam readers with unnecessary
information, jokes or frivolous
material—it is not professional and may
be a company violation and could be
terminated.
