Perspective taking
Perspective taking means that we can infer what others see or
think, we can take the viewpoint of others.
This is important both in cognitive and social phenomena:
The three-mountains-study (Piaget, 1970)
False belief in children (Wimmer & Perner, 1983)
Communication (Keysar et al., 2000; Horton & Keysar, 1996)
Illusion of transparency (Gilovich et al., 1998; Keysar, 1994;
Keysar & Henly, 2002)
Estimation of one’s contribution to collaborative work
(Ross & Sicoly, 1979)
Judged task difficulty for others (Kelley & Jacoby, 1996)
Unrealistic optimism (Weinstein, 1980)
