Signal Towers
Signal towers were used
to send military
communications. Military
communications : fires,
lanterns, smoke signals,
raising banners, beating
clappers, or firing guns.
Signal towers often built
on hilltops for maximum
visibility were self
contained high platforms
or towers. The lower
levels contained rooms
where soldiers would
sleep, stables for animals,
sheep folds, and storage
areas.
Cool fact
There is a myth that
you can see the great
wall of china from
space, but actually
you would need
17,000 times better
vision to see it.
Meng Tian
As general under
Shihuangdi, the first
emperor of the Quin
dynasty, was sent to subdue
the nomadic central Asian
tribesmen. Other Chinese
rulers were said to have built
defensive walls in the north,
before this time , Meng
probably incorporated these
lesser walls into his work.
