Two Periods
Western Zhou
11th century BC to 770 BC
The capital cities in the
Western Zhou of
Fengyi and Haojing are in
the west of the Eastern
Zhou's capital of Luoyi this is
why there is a western part
of the dynasty.
Eastern Zhou
770 BC - 256 BC
Eastern Zhou is divided into
the Spring and Autumn
Periods which took place in
770 BC-476 BC and the
Warring States Period which
took place in (476 BC - 221
BC).
Western Leaders
King Wu- establisher
King Wen- first official ruler of the states
King Li- tyrant, overthrown by the people
Gong Hebo – established counting the
years
King You – failure of the dynasty,
assaulted and then failure
Eastern Leaders
Xuan Jiu – King You’s son, creator of
eastern dynasty
Pingwang (Ji Yijiu) – moved capital to luoyi
Zhuangwang (Ji Tuo) - battle of Changshao
Feiwang (Ji Tui) – rebelled to be King
against Huiwang
Zhou Shunwang (Ji Jie) – last emperor of
the Zhou dynasty
Achievements
Confucianism - accept positions in life
Daoism – being balanced with the natural world
Legalism – belief that people were born the way they will be
for the rest of their lives. If they were a bad person or a good
person they were born that way.
Longest lasting dynasty
Defeated six states before being over thrown by the Qin
dynasty

Great Wall was started
Confusion was started (changed the
way China was ran)
Effects on other cultures?
Over powered Shang dynasty
Created Confucianism which will later
become a major part of other dynasties
