• Ruled longer than
Tang, but with less
territory
• Under constant threat
from Mongols in the
north
• Continued advances in
agriculture
• New rice strains
• New farming
techniques
• Also made heavy use
of grand canal
• Ended by Mongol
invasion in 1279
