Looking Ahead to February’s Learning Objectives
Important Upcoming Dates
MATH Identify the part of a set and/or region that represents
fractions for one-half, one-third, one-fourth, one-eighth, and
one-tenth and write the corresponding fractions SOL 2.4. Tell
time and write time to the quarter hour, using analog and
digital clocks SOL 2.16.
February 1st – Report cards go home
SOCIAL STUDIES Students will explain how the contributions
of Ancient China & Egypt have influenced the present world in
terms of architecture, inventions, the calendar and written
language SOL 2.1. Students will locate China & Egypt on a
world map, compare climate, land and plant life to other
cultures and describe how people in Ancient China & Egypt
adapted to their environment SOL 2.4. Students will Identify
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony,
Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson, and Martin Luther King, Jr. as
Americans whose contributions improved the lives of other
Americans SOL 2.11.

Our class is in desperate need of
Kleenex. We appreciate any
donations!
WRITING Maintain manuscript: write neatly, space words in a
sentence, space sentences in writing; begin reading and
writing in cursive SOL 2.10. Generate ideas before writing,
organize writing to include a beginning, middle and end. Write
stories, letters and simple explanations. Revise writing for
clarity SOL 2.11. Students will begin to edit for correct
grammar, capitalization, punctuation and spelling. Recognize
and use complete sentences. Use and punctuate declarative,
interrogative and exclamatory sentences. Use correct spelling
for high frequency sight words SOL 2.12.
Some school supplies are running
low. Please check with your child to
see if they need glue sticks or
markers, etc.

Computation & Estimation
Please make sure that an adult is
signing your child’s reading
calendar each night. Your signature
means that your child completed
their nightly required reading of 20
minutes.
This grade refers to two-digit addition and
subtraction with and without regrouping. This
grade is based on classroom performance on
quizzes and tests given throughout the
computation chapter.

Addition & Subtraction Facts
This grade refers to your child’s individual
progress on weekly Principal’s Challenge.
The goal by the end of the year is for each
student to complete 80 addition facts in 3
minutes and 80 subtraction facts in 3 minutes.
