It is mountainous
– These mountains isolated Greeks from one
another, leading to very different ways of life.

– No part of Greece is more than 60 miles
from the Sea.
– Aegean, Mediterranean, and Ionian
Minoan & Mycenaean
Minoan – Bronze Age (2800 BC)
– Lived on Crete (King Minos)
– Knossos was key city
Mycenaean – 1600 – 1100 BC
– Powerful monarchies
– Trojan War (Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey)
– After collapse, Greece entered a “Dark Age”
