States, there were THREE main sections, or
regions, that dominated the landscape.
Three Major Sections
Geography was very important for this growing

The creation of the Erie Canal allowed traders to trade
from New York City to the ports of Lake Erie
Advances in Technology

This increased water transportation and trade
This had an ENORMOUS impact on the economy in
the early 1800’s

Helped establish a National Bank
Congress passed The Tariff Act of 1816 that taxed foreign imports
•This helped American business compete with the Great British Empire for the
first time ever

Before the factories, the cottage industry ruled the lands
These businesses were the family’s entire form of income in some
cases
The faster you worked, the more you made but if the work place
gets damaged or destroyed then they will have no source of
income
