Vietnam War
1954-1975 The Vietnam War was a long armed
conflict that pitted the communist North
Vietnam and its southern allies, known as the
Viet Cong, against South Vietnam and ally, the
United States. At one point we had 500,000
Americans over fighting in this war. This also
brought disputes to the US deciding whether its
worth staying in this long drawn out war.
President Nixon ordered the withdraw of
soldiers in 1973. 1975 communist forces took
control of Saigon ending the war.

China explodes its first atomic bomb
1964 China now had nuclear weapons
because it exploded its first nuclear bomb.
The Soviet Union agreed to aid China
technologically in the development of nuclear
industry. Mao Zedong called on Chinese
scientists to rely on their own efforts and
develop China's atomic bomb. China however
made a statement that they would never be
the first to use the nuclear weapons and only
be used as self defense.
