Guatemala
was a covert operation carried out by the United States Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA) that deposed the democratically elected
Guatemalan President Jacobo Árbenz and ended the Guatemalan
Revolution.
Code-named Operation PBSUCCESS, it installed the military dictatorship of
Carlos Castillo Armas, the first in a series of U.S.-backed dictators who ruled
Guatemala.
Dwight D. Eisenhower was president during this time
Cuba
Since the Communist takeover by Fidel Castro in 1959, Cuba has been
involved with many major conflicts of the Cold War in Africa and Latin
America where it had supported Marxist governments.
The Bay of Pigs Invasion (known as La Batalla de Girón in Cuba), was an
unsuccessful attempt by a U.S.-trained force of Cuban exiles to invade
southern Cuba with support from U.S. armed forces.
John F. Kennedy was president during this time
British Guiana
By 1963, Cheddi Jagan’s PPP was again the ruling party in government,
having won the 1961 elections. Britain, however, did not want to grant
independence to British Guiana if Jagan were to become the first postindependence leader.
The CIA helped to organize and fund anti-Jagan protests in February 1962,
which resulted in strikes and riots, and during which, in fact, the British sent
troops to restore order.

Dominican Republic
In an effort to forestall what he claims will be a “communist dictatorship” in
the Dominican Republic, President Lyndon B. Johnson sends more than
22,000 U.S. troops to restore order on the island nation.
Johnson’s action provoked loud protests in Latin America and skepticism
among many in the United States.

Chile
According to the 1975 Church Commission Report, covert United States
involvement in Chile in the decade between 1963 and 1973 was extensive
and continuous. Covert American activity was present in almost every
major election in Chile in the decade between 1963 and 1973, but its
actual effect on electoral outcomes is not altogether clear.
Allende was elected their leader and was pro-communism
Richard Nixon was president during this time
Nicaragua
Upon taking office in January 1981, Ronald Reagan cancelled the dispersal
of economic aid to Nicaragua, and on 6 August 1981 he signed National
Security Decision Directive number 7 which authorized the production and
shipment of arms to the region but not their deployment.
On 17 November 1981, President Reagan signed National Security Directive
17, and authorized covert support to anti-Sandinista forces.

Grenada
The Invasion of Grenada was a 1983 United States–led invasion of the
Caribbean island nation of Grenada, located north of Venezuela, that
resulted in a U.S. victory within a matter of weeks. Codenamed Operation
Urgent Fury. The invasion resulted in the appointment of an interim
government, followed by democratic elections in 1984.
Ronald Reagan was president during this time
Panama
The United States Invasion of Panama, code-named Operation Just Cause,
was the invasion of Panama by the United States between mid-December
1989 and late-January 1990. Ten years after the Torrijos–Carter Treaties were
ratified to transfer control of the Panama Canal from the United States to
Panama by 1 January 2000.
In the mid-1980s, relations between Noriega and the United States began
to deteriorate.
George H. W. Bush was president during this time
Which intervention lead to a Ronald
Reagan backing the anti-Sandinista forces?
British Guiana
Dominican Republic
Grenada
Nicaragua
Try Again.
The U.S. supported anti-Jagan protests not ant-Sandinista in British Guiana.
Try Again.
Anti-Sandinistas are located in another country and Lyndon B. Johnson was
president during this time.
Try Again.
This intervention actually happened after the U.S. backed the anti-Sandinistas.
Correct!
Nicaragua is the only correct answer due to President Ronald Reagan
backing up the anti-Sandinistas in 1981 for National Security reasons so that
Communism would not have any more foothold in the Western
Hemisphere.
