What is Thanksgiving?
On the fourth Thursday

Americans celebrate
Thanksgiving, a national

early settlers and their
harvest feast known as
the first Thanksgiving.
From the
beginning..
Before
the European
settlers came the United
States, Native Americans
and their tribes inhabited
the certain areas of the U.S.
Along the East Coast of
the United States where the
European settlers arrived,
lived the Wampanoag
Indians.
The Wampanoag Indians
had lived in the area for
many years.
The Indians and people
from the tribe knew the
land well and had fished,
hunted, and harvested for
thousands of generations
Arrival of the
European settlers
The
Pilgrims who sailed
to America aboard the
Mayflower were originally
members of the English
Separatist Church.
The Pilgrims set ground at
Plymouth Rock on
December 11, 1620
Several Pilgrims died on
their voyage to America
due to several diseases.
When the Pilgrims had
their first encounter with
the Indians, the Indians
noticed they were weak
and helped the settlers
grow crops and hunt for
food.
The first
Thanksgiving
The
Indians and the
Pilgrims had their first
successful harvest.
Together they celebrated
and ate together.
The Pilgrims were very
thankful that the Indians
helped them.
It is said that the Pilgrims
would not have survived
without the help of the
Native American Indians.
