•Alabama is one of the 50 states in the
United States of America.
•Alabama is on the continent of North
America in Earth’s Northern and
Western hemisperes.
• Alabama is in the Southeast Region,
or part, of the United States.
• Alabama has a mild climate. That
means it’s never too hot or too cold.
•Alabama often has severe weather in
the forms of hurricanes and
tornadoes.

•Alabama has a big variety of physical
features.
•Types of AL landforms:
•mountains
•hills and valleys
•coastal plain
•wetlands
• The mountain range in the northeast
corner of AL is called the Appalachian
Mountains.
•At the foot of the App. Mountains is an
area of hills and valleys called the
Piedmont.
• Alabama is on the coast of the Gulf of
Mexico. This low, flat land on the
Gulf is known as a coastal plain.
•Wetland areas include
bayous, marshes, and
swamps. These can be
found in areas such as the
Tensaw Delta.
•Mobile, AL’s only seaport city & one of
AL’s largest cities, sits on Mobile Bay
on the Gulf of Mexico.
•The geography of AL does not stop at
AL’s borders. It continues and connects
AL with other states.
•Rivers and their tributaries are the
same way. The Tennessee River is a
tributary of the Ohio River which meets
the Mississippi River and then empties
into the Gulf of Mexico.

human features in AL.
•AL is also divided into
67 counties. We live in
Colbert County.
• AL’s largest
cities are
Birmingham,
Mobile,
Montgomery, and
Huntsville
•The Shoals QuadCities include
Tuscumbia, Sheffield,
Muscle Shoals, and
Florence.
