The Preamble
(to the Constitution)
What to do:
• The Preamble to the Constitution is in
paragraph form. It states the goals of our
country.
• Solve the Preamble puzzle, write the
introduction paragraph on the back of the
puzzle sheet.
• Unscramble the preamble vocabulary words
writing them down. EX: word: union
• We’ll correct puzzle & vocab. definitions in
a bit…GO!
Preamble
The Preamble: COPY ONTO YOUR
PAPER EXACTLY
We the people of the United States,
in order to form a more perfect union,
establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
provide for the common defense, promote the
general welfare, and secure the blessing of
liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do
ordain and establish this Constitution for the
United States of America.
Preamble Vocab:
• Union: The act or uniting/coming together to
form the U.S.A.
• Justice: Fairness, treat people with respect.
• Domestic: home, on U.S.A. soil.
• Tranquility: Calm, peaceful, happiness
• Common Defense: A military defending our
country & rights.
• Welfare: Responsibility of government to
provide, health, happiness, prosperity.
• Liberty: Freedoms
• Posterity: Future generations
• Ordain: To make Constitution document
official.
Posterity vs Prosperity
Posterity: Future generations, your
kids and their kids and their kids and
their kids etc…
Prosperity: To have money or wealth,
not necessarily loaded or rich but
financially okay!

the words, rewrite the preamble using YOUR own words.
