• Animals are classified into phyla
based on several different criteria
including:
–Body symmetry
–Level of organization

• Asymmetry- (no symmetry)
• Radial symmetry- Circular shapetwo identical halves result no
matter how the animal is cut
• Bilateral symmetry-Identical right
& left halves

• Cellular- animal is made of
many cells, none of which work
together
• Ex. Sponge

form specialzed tissues like muscle
