The Excretory System: Vocabulary Part I
1) urinary system: includes your kidneys,
bladder, urethra, and ureters.
2) kidneys: bean shaped organ that filters
waste out of the blood and produce urine.
3) urine: a combination of waste and excess
water.

The Excretory System: Vocabulary Part II
4) nephron: separates waste from useful materials in
your blood.
5) Ureters: are the tubes that transports urine from your
kidney to your bladder.
6) bladder: temporarily stores urine until it can be
released.
7) urethra: is the tube that transports urine from your
bladder to the outside world.

The Excretory System: Main Ideas
1) What does the excretory system do? (pg.
156-157)
a) It removes liquid waste from your body
Quick Check (pg. 157)
-Critical Thinking: What makes something
a waste?
a) Waste is material that is not useful or harmful to
your body.

2) How does your body filter blood? (pg. 158-159)
a) Your liver breaks down toxins in the blood.
Your lungs release carbon dioxide.
Quick Check (pg. 159)
-Critical Thinking: Why are nephrons
surrounded by capillaries?
a) Capillaries allow waste cells to pass through
them in order to clean the blood.

3) How does your body eliminate waste?
(pg. 160-161)
a) Through our excretory system through our kidneys,
ureters, bladder and urethra.
b) Through your sweat glands.
c) Through the digestive system.
