that hurt

To
open the airway:
Head tilt/chin-lift
Airway

Look, listen, and feel for breathing for no more than 10
seconds
o
If not breathing, give 2 rescue
breaths for a child or infant.

If person is breathing, maintain an open airway
through the head-tilt/chin-lift
Breathing
If
an adult has no signs of life, you must
assume the problem is a cardiac emergency
and begin CPR immediately
Circulation
Check for severe bleeding by looking over
person’s body from head to toe
Look for blood-soaked clothing or blood
spurting from a wound

Shock- Circulatory system fails to deliver
oxygen-rich blood to the body’s tissues and
vital organs
Traumatic Shock: injury related shock.

Treatment Objectives
•
Restlessness or irritability
•
Altered level of consciousness
•
Nausea or vomiting
•
Pale, ashen, cool, moist skin
•
Rapid breathing and pulse
•
Excessive thirst
Signals of Shock
Call 911
Have the person lie down
Control any bleeding
Elevate person’s legs about 12 inches
Help person maintain normal body temperature
Do not give person anything to eat or drink
Reassure person
Continue to monitor person’s ABCs
