Answer to first focus question
The reason the Civil War battles were so
much bloodier than the battles of the War of
1812 was because of many reasons. The first
reason the scale of the Civil War battles
dwarfed the size of the Battles of the War of
1812. The second reason tactics had changed
in the civil war instead of standing up and
firing at your enemy the soldiers hid behind
barricades and fired at their enemies. The last

Battle field technology had evolved
tremendously from 1812 to the Civil War. The
reason the technology evolved so much is
because of the rise of industry.

Answer to second focus question (cont). The
other reason is that research on weaponry
was increasing.
Answer to Third focus question. The tactics
underwent a huge change from the war of
1812 to the Civil War. In the Civil war before
almost every battle the battlefield was ripped
up by a artillery bombardment which was not
as common in 1812. In the Civil War instead of
standing up in plain sight and firing.

men hide behind rocks of other obstructions
and fired. Also guerilla warfare was more
common in the Civil War
Answer to Fourth focus question. There were
many more huge battles in the Civil war than
1812 because it was over a much larger span
of territory and the U.S had many more
people in 1861 than in 1812.
The bombardment of Fort Sumter. This battle
marked the start of the Civil War. Not one
man was killed in the 33-hour bombardment.
It was a bloodless start to the bloodiest war in
U.S history
The first battle of Manassas or the battle of
Bull Run. The battle of Bull Run was fought in
Virginia. The Union troops were on there way
to Richmond the capital of the Confederacy.
Bull Run (c0nt). The Union troops did not
know that a Confederate force was Waiting
for them at Manassas. The Confederacy had
been told of the attack by Rose Greenhow
who lived in Washington D.C. She had hidden
a coded message in the locks of a young girl’s
hair. When the confederate troops spotted
the Union troops they charged at the Union
screaming and firing, the green union troops
retreated.

Bull Run (cont). The North was shocked they
had lost the Battle. The North realized that
beating the Confederacy would be no easy
task.
The Battle of Antietam. The Union was
starting to to Execute its war Strategy the
Union attacked Richmond with a huge force,
yet they were still defeated. The Union also

Antietam (cont). Moved his forces into
Maryland across the Potomac River. He
hoped that the forces could convince
Maryland to join the Confederacy. The Union
and the Confederacy met at Antietam creek.
The confederacy was horribly outnumbered
and lost the battle. Some considered the
Battle a loss for Both sides considering the
massive casualties taken by both sides.
Antietam was the bloodiest day of the war

The battle of Gettysburg. Robert E. Lee was
confident about invading the Union yet again.
Lee’s plan was to capture a northern city and
hope that the north would consider peace
talks. The Confederate and Union troops met
outside Gettysburg Pennsylvania. There they
battled for three days straight. Both sides
took huge casualties. Despite the losses Lee
inflicted on the union, he had lost a third of
his army. The north had one the battle.

The siege of Vicksburg. The Union had gained
control of the Mississippi River to the point
that the South couldn’t move supplys or men
up and down the River, but neither could the
North because the Controlled one key

and Lee’s army’s met in dense forest called
the Wilderness. Grant’s army took massive
casualties but they still Pushed on.
Eventually Grants forces got to Petersburg
the Gateway to Richmond. After nine months
of fighting Lee’s Army surrendered.
New battlefield tech
A lot of new battlefield tech came into play in the civil war.
There were many new break troughs such as
New rifle technology instead of muskets
Iron clad warships.
New explosive artillery
And the very new Gatling gun. All this new technology made
the civil war the bloodiest war in American history to date.
